Where did the name Ljubljana come from?
Some argue that the city is named after an ancient city divinity that the
ancient Slavs called Laburus, others maintain that the name derives from Latin
and that the city is named after a flooding river "aluviana", still
others swear that the name derives from naming Laubach – the swamp.
Those who, as Anton Tomaž Linhart, loved the town, believe that its name can
only derive from the Slovenian word "luba" - beloved.
